Plum Pine (Podocarpus elatus)

The Plum Pine (Podocarpus elatus), also known as the Illawarra plum or brown pine, is an ancient native Australian conifer famous for its unique fleshy edible fruit. It can reach up to 40 metres high in it's native rainforest habitat and a hight of 8 metres in gardens. The fruit is high in Vit C and traditionally eaten raw or cooked into jams, jellies, sauces and desserts. They are dioecious so meaning male and female reproductive structures grow on separate trees, only female produce the edible fruit.
